Is your child or young person struggling with school attendance?

School can’t, previously known as school refusal, is a central nervous system response to stress. It is not a character flaw, or behavioural choice. It is highly stressful for both young people and their parents/carers and needs a collaborative approach, including school support and clear communication channels.

This website provides resources and a support network for parents/carers. Follow the link and/or make contact with me and we can forge a path forward that honours the challenges and finds solutions.

Sometimes leaving books out at home for our young people to explore can encourage learning, in a non-directive manner. For our pre-teens books, like these two, can provide good information about bodies, hormonal changes, normalising the experience of puberty. We don’t want the internet to be the sole source of learning about puberty and sex.

Also being available for a chat about what they have read is important, even if it’s a little uncomfortable.
